1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the Hey Genie Chrome extension ("Extension"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Extension.

Hey Genie is a personal project created and maintained by an independent developer. It is not operated by a registered company or corporation.

2. Description of Service

Hey Genie is a Chrome extension that provides an AI-powered side panel for interacting with webpages. The Extension:

  • Allows you to ask questions about any active webpage and get instant AI-powered answers.
  • Routes your queries to your chosen AI provider (ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, or Pi) via your own active, logged-in session.
  • Supports text input, voice typing, and live voice conversation modes.
  • Lets you upload and chat with PDFs, documents, and other files.
  • Provides a highlight toolbar for selected text to get instant explanations, summaries, or translations.
  • Saves chat history and custom prompt templates locally on your device.

The Extension operates entirely within your browser. It does not run its own AI servers, databases, or backend infrastructure for generating responses.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use Hey Genie. By using the Extension, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

4. Free & Pro Plans

Hey Genie offers two tiers of service:

Free Plan: 200 daily AI credits (a text reply costs 8 credits, a voice reply costs 12 credits). Includes page context, highlight toolbar, basic document chat, and all four AI providers. No payment required.

Pro Plan: Unlimited AI queries and voice interactions, unlimited document chat, data management, chat export, and all premium features. Requires a Pro subscription.

  • The Pro status is a recurring subscription managed through DodoPayments.
  • If cancelled, the subscription remains active until the end of the current billing cycle.
  • Subscriptions are linked to your Appwrite account (created inside the extension sidepanel, or via Sign in with Google) and verified upon login.

5. Payment & Billing

All payments for the Pro plan are processed by DodoPayments. Hey Genie does not directly handle, process, or store any payment information such as credit card numbers or billing addresses.

  • The Pro license is a recurring subscription fee as displayed on the purchase page.
  • Payment is processed securely through DodoPayments’ checkout.
  • Upon successful checkout, your Appwrite account session automatically upgrades to Pro status.
  • Hey Genie is not responsible for any checkout processing errors on DodoPayments’ end.

6. Refund Policy

No Refunds After Trial Ends. Once your trial period (7 days yearly / 3 days monthly) ends and subscription billing is processed, no refunds will be issued. By subscribing, you agree that the purchase is final.

We encourage you to try the Free plan first (200 credits/day) to ensure Hey Genie meets your needs before upgrading to Pro.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Hey Genie in compliance with all applicable laws. You must NOT use Hey Genie to:

  • Generate content that violates any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to bypass or manipulate the daily credit system or subscription verification.
  • Impersonate other users or entities through the extension.
  • Engage in any activity that could damage, disable, or impair the functionality of any website.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension’s code.
  • Redistribute, resell, or share your Pro account credentials with third parties.

8. Third-Party Services

Hey Genie integrates with the following third-party services. Your use of these services is governed by their respective terms:

9. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to the Hey Genie Extension — including its code, design, branding, and documentation — are owned by the developer. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Extension in accordance with these Terms.

AI-generated responses produced through the Extension are subject to the terms of the respective AI provider you used to generate them.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Hey Genie is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

  • The Extension will be error-free or uninterrupted.
  • AI-generated responses will be accurate, appropriate, or suitable for any purpose.
  • The Extension will be compatible with future versions of Chrome or AI providers.
  • Third-party AI providers will remain available or maintain their current quality.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer of Hey Genie shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Loss of profits, data, or reputation.
  • Inaccurate or misleading AI-generated responses.
  • Any issues arising from third-party AI provider changes or downtime.
  • Unauthorized access to your AI provider or Appwrite accounts.

You use Hey Genie at your own risk and are solely responsible for verifying any AI-generated information.

12. Termination

You may stop using Hey Genie at any time by uninstalling the Extension. All locally stored data will be permanently removed upon uninstallation.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and Pro access if we determine that the Terms of Service have been violated, including but not limited to account sharing, credit system manipulation, or fraudulent activity.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Extension shall be resolved through informal negotiation first, and if necessary, through the competent courts of India.
